this song is on a cd that my mom got from my dad about seven or eight years ago. it’s by an artist named carole king—if you don’t know who carole king is, she’s a singer from the seventies, sort of folk rock/pop/jazz (the theme of gilmore girls is one of her songs). my mom doesn’t really listen to her a whole lot anymore but she used to like her a lot way back when.
i was driving back from waterloo with my mom and it was pretty dark out by this time. i had put this album on in the car because i really like it (just having found it around our house a few years ago) and because i knew my mom used to like her. so we were driving on the highway and we had been talking and then this song came on. there had been a lull in our conversation and then all of a sudden we started singing along together. it was such a wonderful moment with my mom and it really made me realize how much i missed being home for these past eight months. (and also made me sad that i won’t be living at home for at least eight more, and possibly a lot more than that).
now whenever i hear this song it’s going to remind me of that moment. and now an already good song is even better.
ps. if you like this song, you should get the whole album (it’s called tapestry). it’s really good.
I agree this is a great song, also the rest of the album. We have it at home too, it’s definitely a classic!
